Acne is one of the most common and annoying skin problems that affects teenagers. Apart from the common causes of acne, it is believed now that there are some common foods that are acne triggers. These foods don’t have the same effect on all people which means a food that can cause breakouts in one person may don’t do the same thing in another person. Here are some of the acne triggers foods.
1. Milk: Some studies say that acne may be worse for dairy eaters, particularly in milk drinkers. That is because dairy causes spikes in certain pimple producing hormones. Remember that it is an individual matter, so if you have acne, try to cut up cow’s milk for a week to know if it is the reason behind the appearance of your acne or no.
2. Bread: Baguettes, croissants, and all that other stuff may make your acne worse because wheat causes inflammation. And you need to reduce inflammation in your body to get rid of acne.
3. Saturated Fat: Burgers, fried chicken, and fast food meals should be avoided if you want clear skin. That’s because they’re higher in saturated fat. A study in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics looked at a range of diet habits and acne and found that people who had moderate to severe acne consumed more sat fat than those with clear skin or mild acne. It’s not well understood, but sat fat may increase certain growth factors that contribute to breakouts.
4. Potato Chips: Again, the foods you eat has a great effect on your skin, so when you eat carbs, specifically those with a high glycemic index, they cause inflammation, which can lead to breakouts. In fact, in terms of foods that cause acne, many dermatologists say high-GI foods are the biggest culprit.
5. Peanuts: Peanuts contain an androgen, which can make acne worse by increasing sebum production. Peanuts will generally make people more oily so they are more prone to experience acne than the others who don’t consume peanuts.
6. Soy: Foods that are high in soy can cause acne to appear because they contain phytoestrogens, which mimic natural hormones and potentially exacerbate skin flare-ups. Soy derivatives show up in everything from veggie burgers to energy bars, so read labels carefully.
