While people and experts have been recommending people to follow the low-carb, high protein diet for a while now due to its potential ability to aid in weight loss. But if you tried to go low-carb or know someone who did, you’d probably know that eating a diet low in carbs can impact your mood and make you feel unexplainably angry sometimes.

Experts say that, carbohydrates is the best type of fuel for the brain, eating less of it can disturb the production of mood-regulating hormones and make you hangry.
And now recent research’s claiming that going low-carb will not only make you in funny moods. But also change the way you make decisions. At least that is the new main conclusion from a recent study published in the journal PNAS.

In the study, researchers established two experiments to see the behavior of people who eat high carbohydrates breakfast and others who eat low-carb, high protein breakfast and the results were really surprising.

In the first experiment, researchers asked the participants what did they eat for breakfast that day and had all participants playing a game called the Ultimate Game. In the game one player offers how to share an amount of money allotted to them with another player (for example I will give you 5$ and take 15$) if the receiver accepts the offer then both players would get paid, if the receiver rejects the offer neither of the players get paid.

Studies show that usually receivers reject bad offers as a sort of punishment for proposing a bad offer in the first place. The findings if the study were amazing. The study found that people who had a low-carb breakfast were highly likely to accept bad offers than participants who had a high-carb breakfast.

On the second experiment, 24 participants were divided on two groups and asked to play the same game over two days. The first day one group was given a low-carb, high protein breakfast of of milk, cheese and ham while the other group was given a high-carb breakfast of jam, white bread and fruit juice. On the second day of the experiment, the breakfast was switched for the two groups. The study found that the group that ate low-carb breakfast was always willing to accept unfair offers.

The researchers were not exactly sure about the reason for the results. But they suggest that low-carb breakfasts usually contain more protein and protein promotes the feel-good dopamine hormone which is also involved in decision making. So that could cause people to be more tolerant and accept unfair offers.
