And I don’t mean staying up late or suffering from some illness such as the flu and feeling sluggish the day after, because then feeling tired, sluggish and sleepy would be natural. What I mean is feeling sleepy and tired throughout the day even though sleep enough hours at night. In this case you might be suffering from EDS, Excessive Daytime Sleepiness.
EDS is a case in which you want to take many naps and sleep during the day even if you sleep regularly at night. 1- Sleep enough at night. The number of hours you need to be having enough sleep differs from one person to another. Personally I only need 6 or a little bit more, and I hear that some people sleep 9 hours a night. What is important here is learning how much sleep you need rather than limiting yourself to a definite number of hours.
2- Prepare a sleep worthy environment in your bedroom. I have heard of people who turn their bedrooms into a workplace
, a workout place, an entertainment zone and even a dining room. This can really disturb your sleep because your brain is no longer programmed to thinking that this is a place where almost every move of your body grounds to a halt. And this can make sleeping really difficult.
3- Make a habit of waking up at a certain hour. Again, we want to set a system for the brain to know when it is okay to sleep and when it isn’t. This way you won’t feel tempted to sleep at day. So, no matter what day of the week it is, a work day or a weekend you’ll wake up at a certain hour.
4- Also, make a habit of going to bed at the same day every day. Actually applying treatment number 3 won’t be easy without doing this. Setting a system for your body will be easier this way. If your body has enough hours of sleep every night and starts the recharging time at the same hour every night, getting rid of EDS will be easier.
