Iron deficiency is a poor health state where you have low levels of iron leading to low production of hemoglobin or to producing low quality hemoglobin and to poor red blood cells in the process. This iron needed for the production of hemoglobin is necessary because
, without it, blood cells will not have the ability to carry oxygen well. And we need oxygen for energy. So, we won’t be provided with the energy we need to do our daily activities. We can replenish our needs of iron by eating foods that are rich in iron, such as:
1- Red Meat. If you are not a vegetarian, then you’d be happy to know that you can get your daily quota of iron and avoid iron deficiency by eating red meat. Red meat will also provide you with protein among many other nutrients and vitamins.
2- Spinach. Remember the cartoon, Popeye? And its message, eat spinach to grow strong? Spinach IS one of the richest sources of nutrients including iron. Three tablespoons of spinach give you about 20% of your daily need of iron and prevents iron deficiency.
3- Beans. They are delicious, affordable, filling and rich in iron. You have so many kinds of beans, soy, kidney, navy, lima, etc. So, enrich your meals and get your needs of iron with beans.
4- Peanuts and Peanut butter. Those who are used to including peanut butter in their meals were found to have higher levels of energy compared to those who avoid it. Have a peanut butter sandwich and snack on peanuts from time to time to increase your hemoglobin and avoid iron deficiency.
5- Oatmeal. Oatmeal is undeniably one of the riches foods in nutrients ever. So, naturally it has sufficient levels of iron. A spoonful of oatmeal with a cup of yogurt in the evening and a bowl of oatmeal with milk in the morning can make you so much healthier in a little time.
6- Whole grains. Whole grains contain a lot of vitamins and minerals, much less iron. A mere slice of whole grain bread will give you more than 5% of your daily need of iron, so imagine what would using whole grain products do to your iron levels? Keep anemia at bay by consuming whole grains.
Although it is true that you can get iron from supplements and multivitamins, getting it from natural food ingredients is far better.
