Excessive production of mucus can be due to a lot of reasons. However, it is usually a sign of a health problem, such as respiratory infections like the flu, or an allergy like hay fever. It can also be a symptom of the negative repercussions of smoking. The first step in treating excessive production of mucus is eliminating its cause. After that, you can try some of the following natural homemade treatments:
1- Black pepper, honey and ginger drink. Boil a glass of water to which you added half a teaspoon of ginger and a sprinkle of black pepper. Keep boiling for a few minutes before turning off the flame. Sweeten it with some honey and drink it twice a day.
2- Drinking enough water is a natural remedy for many illnesses. It means your body will expel toxins through sweat instead of resorting to the production of mucus. Therefore, drink 2 – 3 liters of water a day.
3- Apple Cider Vinegar wash. – add one part vinegar to two parts of water. Use this mixture as a Gargle before bending for at least 3 minutes. This mixture will help in dislodging and getting rid of the mucus stuck to your airways.
4- Garlic is one of the most powerful foods at fighting bacteria and viruses due to its natural antiviral qualities. Do not cook it because heat can destroy some of its effective antiviral components. Mince garlic and combine it raw with other foods such as yogurt, honey…etc.
5- Lemon and honey. This is probably the oldest trick in the book to cure mucus and many other ailments. Both lemon and honey have powerful antiviral and antimicrobial qualities, not to mention the soothing effect lemon has on irritated membranes that produce mucus.
