There are times when we may need a cup of coffee late at night to have just enough energy to get everything done for the day. However, caffeine in coffee is a stimulant, it helps to provide a burst of energy and alertness which makes it not suitable for night consumption. Caffeine gets in the bloodstream and reaches the brain within 20 minutes of consuming it and it only starts to get eliminated from the body 6 hours later.
So it is definitely not something to be taken if you are planning to get some shut eye soon.
However, there are still ways you can get yourself to relax and sleep despite drinking coffee. Try the following tips they can help you to fall asleep easier after drinking coffee.
1- Drink a Glass of Milk.
Have a glass of warm milk which is a good source of the amino avid tryptophan that helps to produce serotonin which then gets concerted into melatonin which promotes sound sleep. To up the dose of tryptophan you could even try to eat a turkey meat sandwich or even canned tuna, both are good sources of tryptophan and can promote sleeping.
2- Create a Sleep Inducing Environment.
Your brain is already stimulated from the caffeine you just pumped your system with so you have to make sure your sleep promotes relaxation and sleep, that includes keeping away any distractions like cell phones laptops, TVs, gaming consoles and any this that could distract and stimulate your mind even if it is your pet.
Draw your curtains closed and make sure your room is completely dark and cool enough. The lack of distractions can force your mind to relax and fall asleep because there’s nothing more to do.
3- Have Relaxing Herbal Teas.
Herbal teas like chamomile and anise seed can help you relax and promote sleeping. You can use honey to sweeten your tea. Fennel seed can also help to relax your wired mind.
4- Relax Your Mind.
Sometimes what could keep you awake is thinking too much of the stressors of the day. Clearing your mind from anxieties and stresses can help you fall asleep easier. Don’t keep watching the clock ticking because that can make you take longer to fall asleep.
Sometimes counting sheep can help you fall asleep, imagine beautiful places and focus your mind on thinking about relaxing sounds like the sound of the birds, wind and waves before you even notice it you will find yourself asleep and dreaming.
