It is really embarrassing to have people avoid you because you have a bad breath. What is even more bothersome is that people are usually too embarrassed to face you with the reason why they avoid you. You just receive reluctant looks and things like “I need some space” from your girlfriend or boyfriend. So, apply these tips to make sure your breath smells nice all the time.

1- Apply a healthy diet that contains lots of protein, vegetables and as low fat and carbs as possible. Types of diet that have a high percentage of fat lead to the production of a certain substance called “ketone”. This substance can rise as a gas from your stomach and then sticks to your esophagus and tongue causing bad breath. On the other hand, diets rich in carbs lead to the formation of plaque on your teeth, which is another reason for bad breath.

2- Maintain a habit of brushing and flossing your teeth twice a day at least. This means that the food remains that linger on your teeth and between them and cause plaque and bad breath will be gone. With regular brushing and flossing, no food will linger on your teeth to cause plaque, bad breath or even cavities.

3- Use an alcohol free mouth wash that contains zinc. Why a mouth wash with these specific qualities? Because, saliva can contribute to removing or lessening bad smells. So, to increase saliva, you need to have enough water in your body but this won’t happen with alcohol dehydrating it. Plus, alcohol usually contains a large percentage of sugar that contributes to the formation of plaque and mouth odors. You do not need anything fancy for your mouth wash and you can even make it yourself. For example, add tea tree oil, peppermint oil or baking soda to a bottle of water, and it will be the most powerful mouth wash you could have ever.

4- Keep a pack of breath freshening gum or breath freshener with you at all times. Breath freshening products usually have all of these components: zinc xylitol, chloride, eucalyptol, and vitamin C. Chewing on cinnamon sticks or mint leaves also has the same effect.

5- Substitute coffees, teas, sodas and sugary drinks with homemade fruit juice and water. coffees, teas, sodas and sugary drinks have excessive amounts of sugar and some of them even contain acid. Citric acid and sugar can ruin your teeth and give you bad breath in no time.
