It usually occurs when your feet sweat and the sweat does not evaporate because you are wearing shoes or socks. Bacteria naturally present on your skin grow as they feed on the sweat and dead skin cells, producing the stinky smell. Fortunately, there are many things you can do at home to eliminate bacteria causing the foot odor. Here are 7 ways to get rid of annoying foot odor.
1. Use Baking Soda: Baking soda is an effective remedy to eliminate foot odor because it neutralizes the pH of sweat and reduces bacteria. Add baking soda in warm water and soak your feet in it for 15 to 20 minutes every night for about one week.
2. Add Some Vinegar: Vinegar is good for eliminating foot odor because it creates an acidic environment in which bacteria can’t survive. Immerse your feet in a solution of one-half cup of vinegar and six to eight cups of hot water for 10 to 15 minutes.
3. Consider Using Black Tea: Black tea has tannic acid that helps closes your pores, reducing the amount you’ll sweat. It also acts as a natural antibiotic, killing the bacteria on your feet. Boil two black tea bags in three cups of hot water. Add half a bucket of cool water to the solution and soak your feet in it for 15 to 20 minutes. Do this once a day for a week.
4. Keep your shoes dry and clean: When you reach back home take off your shoes and keep them in open to dry out completely overnight. Never keep them in a closet. If possible wash them occasionally but ensure they dry out completely before you wear them.
5. Pick the Right Socks: Materials like nylon can trap moisture around your feet but cotton allows your feet to breathe. And if you tend to sweat more than the average guy, bring an extra pair of socks with you and change halfway through the day.
6. Rotate Your shoes: Do not wear the same shoes over two days in a row. Rotate them so that they dry out fully. It takes at least 24 hours for them to dry out wholly. This will ensure that the bacteria don’t set up their home in the moisture.
