You Can Still Eat and Enjoy Your Food Even If You Are Lactose Intolerant with These 4 Tips

What is lactose? It is a sugar component found in big quantities in dairy products. So, what does being lactose intolerant mean? I guess you do not need much thinking for guessing what it is.

However, being lactose intolerant means that there are many foods that can cause you stomach problems such as stomach ache, diarrhea, vomiting, gases bloating and many others that vary in their severity from one person to another.

What is even worse is that many food items are now manufactured using dairy products making having a meal without problems A problem for those who are lactose intolerant. However, there are things you can do that can make the toll of this disorder less heavy, such as:

1- You can eat cheese and yogurt. Before anything, I have already said that being lactose intolerant changes in severity from one person to another, so no promises. But usually, you as a lactose intolerant, can eat cheese and yogurt in moderation, especially if they are whole fat. Hard cheeses and Greek yogurt are good to go as well.

2- Not dairy milk but the vegan milk. Many types of milk are now extracted from plants such as rice, soy beans, almonds, coconut, hemp and oats. These plants are lactose free and many of the milks extracted from them are actually very healthy and taste good. They are also good for cooking and baking and are now manufactured to be fortified with many necessary nutrients. However, I DO advise against using margarine or shortening in place of butter. You can use coconut oil instead as it has the same consistency when preserved in low temperatures.

3- Add a little bit of apple cider vinegar. Why? Because apple cider vinegar reconciles your stomach to lactose, or at least it does so to a certain degree. And even if it doesn’t prevent the intolerance to lactose, it lessens the severity of the symptoms. You can add a spoonful of apple cider vinegar to a glass of water and drink it about 10 to 15 minutes before your meals.

4- Fight fire with fire and fight lactose intolerance with chamomile. All the symptoms of lactose intolerance are related to your stomach right? Then, drinking something that can calm your stomach and treat these symptoms, such as chamomile would certainly help.
