Athlete’s foot is a highly contagious skin infection that happens to your feet. It is caused by a fungus that can infect you upon skin contact. It happens at places such as gyms, spas, fitness clubs, locker rooms and shower rooms. It looks like this rough scaly patch on your foot, around your toenails or between your toes.
It causes the release of an awful odor those around you can smell which could be very embarrassing. If the disease is left untreated for a while it can cause itchiness and other symptoms. You’re lucky, however, that you can treat it with simple natural treatments such as:
1- Garlic. Garlic is a natural potent antifungal and antiviral. For treating athlete’s foot with garlic, crush a few garlic cloves and rub your infected areas with it. Wrap your foot with a plastic wrapping and put a sock on. Remove the day after and repeat the whole process few days in a row.
2- Drying agents. Dampness is one of the major reasons for the development of athlete’s foot. Therefore, you need to make sure that your feet are dry all the time. Do not wear socks made of synthetic materials. Wear cotton socks that absorb moisture and let your feet breathe. Moreover, sprinkle some talc powder, baking soda or even corn starch inside your socks.
3- Disinfect your feet daily. Give your feet a bath by soaking them in a bowl of water to which you add natural disinfectants such as tea tree oil, eucalyptus oil, pink Himalayan salt, apple cider vinegar or some rubbing alcohol (I can’t say that rubbing alcohol is natural, but it is definitely available and easy to find).
4- Herbal tea soaks are another way of treating your feet of athlete’s feet. Boil black tea, green tea, red tea, chamomile, sage mint or rose tea and add the boiled extract to a bowl of water and use it for soaking your feet for 10 minutes.
5- Treat your athlete’s foot with ozonated olive oil. It is regular olive oil in which oxygen was infused giving it a consistency similar to that of a gel. Dry your feet well before rubbing ozonated olive oil to prevent the athlete’s feet fungus from developing killing it in the process.
