The most common food allergy is peanut allergy. Although the effects that occur after consuming peanut can be mild sometimes or causing little discomfort the allergic reactions could be life threatening in some cases where medical attention is required. If you are a parent who have children you must already know that it’s very hard to avoid foods that contain peanut all the time to avoid this allergy form.
Children love to try new types of food and candy all the time and as your duty as a parent you must teach them and monitor what’s healthy for them and what’s not new studies have found a better solution which are skin patches . Read below to find out more.
A skin patch called viaskin has started to show promising results in children allergic to peanut . it was created by DBV Technologies .this treatment has been clinically tested giving promising results .these tests were conducted by the NIAID-funded Consortium of Food Allergy Research (CoFAR).
Researchers tested people from the age 4 to 25 years, and after one year of using this skin patch 50 percent of the participants could consume peanut butter ten times more than normal .results were published on October 26, 2016, in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
The whole idea behind the patch is to train the immune system to tolerate little amounts of allergens so the body can get used to it without causing any reactions says Dr. Daniel Rotrosen, director of NIAID’s Division of Allergy, Immunology and Transplantation. The CoFAR study will conduct more research to prove the safety of using these patches for a long time more than a year and if there will be any side effects appearing .this will also help decide whether these patches will be marketed on a wider range as an approved medication for peanut allergy.
These promising trials and researches could help overcome the main cause of children allergies which is peanut . parents and mostly mothers would have to worry about their children anymore , they can consume any type of food whether inside the home or outside . it will save them the fuss of reading food labels and meals ingredients just to make sure that their children are safe and away from these proteins found in the peanut which are the main reason for the severe allergic reactions.
