1. Consider your daily routine
Our teeth need a day-to-day maintenance to remain healthy and clean. Your daily routine should always include brushing your teeth at least twice. So, keep in mind that twice is the minimal number of brushes needed to maintain your teeth daily. Sometimes we forget to brush the backs of the teeth so the plaque keeps building up and causes hidden tooth decays. Also, flossing is vital to be part of your routine. Flossing was proved to be good not only for the teeth, but also for the heart by removing food remains from the teeth.
2. Healthy teeth start with a healthy gumline!
Indeed, healthy teeth start with a healthy gumline but why? The gums are the shells that enclose the teeth’s roots and protect them, so any inflammation or irritation in the gums affect the teeth directly. That is why it is advised to always clean under the gum line. In order to do that, hold your brush with a 45° angle and brush near the gums to protect your teeth from plaque which is considered the number one reason for teeth decay.
3. Visit an orthodontist
It is advisable to visit the dentist twice a year to have a dental check up every six months. However, in case of any dental correction needed visit an orthodontist to set things right. An orthodontist will help you decide if your teeth need any straightening and nowadays the options are numerous. You could choose to have traditional braces but even braces are not the same anymore.
4. What about cosmetic treatments?
Cosmetic treatments are not exclusive to movie stars any more, they are now available for whoever willing to put an extra effort to enjoy a dazzling smile. However, a cosmetic treatment is not a luxurious and not needed procedure. Cosmetic treatments include repairing chips, closing a gap, replacing a missing tooth and even whitening.
5. Keep your breath fresh
You do not have to ruin your smile just because you are self conscious about your breath. Freshen your breath by brushing twice a day and do not forget to brush your tongue as it carries lots of bacteria which is the main reason our breath tend to be altered. An antimicrobial mouthwash would come in handy as well to keep your breath fresh for a longer period of time. An oral prophylaxis twice a year would also be beneficial to the teeth’s status.
6. Watch your diet
Sugary foods and beverages help the mouth bacteria be more ferocious and cause the plaque to build up causing teeth decays. That is why, it is important to limit your sugar intake and replace sugar with fruit and vegetables.
