A living room is not just the heart of your house, it is also where you show off your decoration skills to visitors. However, people sometimes get overly serious when decorating their living rooms and go a few extra miles while they are at it committing some mistakes in the process, such as:
- Neglecting coherence. The living room is usually the place that connects your kitchen or your dining room with other rooms. However, people overlook this fact when decorating their living rooms which makes you feel that the living room was just taken from somewhere else and tossed inside their homes to make a clashing difference with the other rooms.
- Crowding the space. It really bothers me that most people think that leaving a small place without furniture, decoration…etc. is a flaw in decoration. So, they crowd their places with pieces of furniture that usually don’t have much to do with each other in terms of décor. Sometimes more is less.
- Thinking that lighting is merely a method for giving your place visibility. Lighting is an important part of the décor of any area, no matter where it is. Things look greatly different in different types and colors of lighting. Try different types of lighting and see for yourself.
- Cramming the place with decorations. Filling a place with pieces of art, cushions, decorations, photo frames..etc. here and there will kill the ambiance of your place and weaken its focus point making your living room looks like a storeroom rather than a living room.
- Just like cramming the place with decorations is a sin, not using any decorations at all is a similarly awful sin. This is your living room. It should give your visitors an idea of your family and the character of its members.
