Being a mother, especially to a new born infant can be exhausting and tiring no doubt about that. Being a mother for a newborn may not leave enough time for you to sort out your meals properly which ends you up just eating whatever you can have your hands on, not eating well balanced meals can contribute to the tiredness and even increase your odds to have some sort of deficiency like iron or vitamin D deficiency which is common with breastfeeding. So it is important to eat healthy meals that consist of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and carbohydrates. Also make sure to concentrate on drinking lots of fluids like milk, water and fresh juices, dehydration is very common with breastfeeding and can worsen tiredness. Stay away from caffeinated drinks that can affect the baby and lessen his sleep hours which can be even more exhausting for you.
Learn To Relax.
Your baby needs to feed frequently even through the night which may leave your deprived of sleep and the less sleep you get the more stress you may experience, stress is a major energy drain so learn how to keep yourself from getting stressed and just accept the situation and deal with it with patience, know that the situation will only last a few months and your baby will start to sleep longer periods each time so you won’t have to wake up as frequently. Breastfeeding while laying down can help you relax while feeding your baby, but make sure your baby can breath properly and his nose is away from the breast.
It is wise to choose that your baby’s food source is only breastmilk, but that doesn’t mean you have to do all the job yourself, you can use a pump to store the milk in a bottle and ask your partner to wake up at least once through the night to feed the baby and put it back to sleep, that will help you to catch on more sleep, if you are not sure how to use a pump, a lactation nurse or even your doctor can help you learn how to use it and store the milk in a safe way.
